Deadpool & Wolverine

"Deadpool and Wolverine" is a very fun movie with tons of laughs, and action sequences. But as a continuation of Wade Wilson's story to bring him into the proper MCU, it's actually kind of a bad movie.

Now don't come for my throat just yet, I liked it. I liked it a lot in fact. But the story doesn't really make a whole lot of sense in the grand scheme of things, and although they found a way to sneak in more Hugh Jackman Wolverine (which EVERYONE loves), the motivations and repercussions are pretty weak. As usual with my reviews I won't include any spoilers, so some of the more specific things that bothered me I wont elaborate too much on, although with my review coming in a bit late, pretty much the entire movie has been spoiled online. With even some of the bigger surprises being released and publicized officially by Marvel.

The Wade Wilson story involves the TVA (established in the Marvel series "Loki", which I loved. The season 2 ending is one of the most perfect finales Marvel has had). But in D&W, they are completely useless aside from introducing a paper thin TVA villain. I hated that part of the story and it makes me sad that that's the best they could come up with.

The MAIN villain is Cassandra Nova played by Emma Corrin, who knocks it out of the park. I really knew nothing about this character from the comics, so it was cool to see a fresh face in the MCU without any expectations about where it would go. That said, even though their performance as Nova is great, again, the characters arc is pretty thin. And the whole concept surrounding her is just a scapegoat to have endless cameos.

It sounds like I'm hating all over it, but I swear I'm not. I really enjoyed the ride. But that's what you need to look at this as. A ride meant to have exciting sequences, but not much substance.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is great as always. But I don't think the jokes are nearly as tight this time around and not all of them land, whereas Deadpool 2 was a writing masterclass.

Hugh Jackman is easily the best part of the movie for me. He's back in form like he never left. But the BIGGEST gripe I have with the movie is directly related to "this" version of Wolverine, and I want to rant about it so badly, but for spoiler sake I won't. You'll just have to send me an angry email to get the full tirade.

At the end, we have confirmation that Wolverine and Deadpool will be showing up again (and probably again, and again and again...) and I'm sure it sounded a lot like I'm not happy about that, but I swear I am.

For all the shortcomings, I still enjoyed the Hell out of it. Just shut your brain off.
